Pin Wei Wong was born and raised in Malaysia and is currently completing her BFA in Jewelry at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Before coming to the United States Wong received her Advanced Diploma in Jewelry Design in Malaysia. Pin Wei discovered her passion for jewelry making at an early age through her appreciation for intricate objects and small sculptures in her surroundings. Throughout her education, Wong has drawn her inspiration from daily life and her environment, which she then transforms into carefully constructed designs. Pin Wei is keen on exploring different jewelry making techniques and expansive narratives to incorporate into her collections and one of a kind jewelry pieces.
In 2015 Wong was chosen by the Pratt Jewelry Faculty as the recipient for the Peters Valley scholarship, she also received the “Most Outstanding Award” and “Winner of the Necklace Category” for the MIJF Jewellery Design Awards. In 2014 she was one of 15 female finalists for the GIT World’s Jewelry Design Awards. Last year her work was exhibited in the Junior Jewelry Show and the NASAD re-accreditation show at Pratt Institute, as well as the TEN x TEN pop-up exhibit at the 2015 Society of North American Goldsmiths Conference. Pin Wei is eager to continue designing and making jewelry as she moves forward in her career.
